5578 Madison was able to fulfill many of our goals for 2006 and feed the needy of the county.
Some of the accomplishments of Post 5578 in 2006 included performing military rites at the funerals
of 48 veterans, distributing 96 fruit baskets at area nursing homes on Make-a-Difference-Day, passing
out over 500 food baskets to the needy in Boone County along with 175 fruit baskets to the sick and
shut ins at Christmas.
We held a bike rodeo for area schools, invitations were sent out to 10 schools, included were free
hot dogs, soda, safety helmets, bike inspection and repair. Included was a obstacle course and
certificate of participation.
We are extremely proud to have donated 8,031 hours of our time to the community for these projects.
While we are honored to help when and where we can we are in fact more proud of the good citizens
of Boone County without whose help none of the above could have been possible.
VFW Commander Paul Cooper, the officers, and members of Post 5578 thank you.
We wish each of you the best for the new year, 2007, and may God bless America.
Sincerely,
Mike Dunlap, Jr. Vice Commander
VFW Post 5578
