I’m convinced that winter has finally arrived with the cold blast of air we have been having. We’ve had a mild winter, so I guess it’s time for us to be reminded what winter feels like.

Deepest sympathy to the family of John H. Green of Sylvester (formerly of Nellis) who passed away January 13 at the age of 86.

Our congratulations to Carlos Ray and Brenda Barker of Ashford on the birth of their son. Joseph Sidney Layne Barker was born January 16, weighing 7 lb, 8 oz. Proud grandparents are Sidney and Carlie Barker of Nellis and Junior and Lynn Cook and the late Pat Cook.

Congratulations to Joshua and Christina Doss on the birth of their son. Devon Marshall was born January 11, weighing 6 lb, 2 oz. Grandparents are Lawrence and Jenny Doss of Nellis.

Brenda Wood of St Albans shares with us this week her recipe for Mountain Dew Cake. Thanks, Brenda!

MOUNTAIN DEW CAKE

1 box yellow cake mix

1 box instant vanilla pudding (3.4 oz)

4 eggs

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup oil

1/2 cup Mountain Dew soda pop

Mix all ingredients together, pour into a greased and floured 9 X 13 cake pan and bake at 325F degrees, 55-60 minutes.

Glaze

1 stick butter

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup Mountain Dew soda pop

Bring to a boil and pour over cake while hot.
