The B. B. Johnston shelter at Racine Park has been reserved for Saturday, August 18 for the 11th Annual Brush Creek Grade School reunion. Bring a covered dish and your soft drinks and spend the afternoon with former school mates, teachers, and long-time friends.

Gina Shope of Glasgow shares with us this great chocolate chip cheese ball recipe:

Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball

1 pkg (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup butter (no substitutes), softened

1/4 teaspoon vanilla

3/4 cup confectioner’s sugar

2 tablespoons brown sugar

3/4 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips

Graham crackers

In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, butter and vanilla until fluffy. Gradually add sugars; beat just until combined. Stir in chocolate chips. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours.

Place cream cheese mixture on a large piece of plastic wrap; shape into a ball. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Serve with graham crackers.

I have been writing the B.A.R.N. column for several years and very seldom do I mention or go into detail about personal happenings in my life or anything to do with my family, but maybe our experience last week will make someone more careful while driving.

My husband and I were involved in a head-on collision this past Tuesday in the sharp curve near Magic Mart in Danville. The driver of the other vehicle said he thinks he went to sleep and was completely in our lane of traffic as we rounded the curve. My husband slammed on the brakes, but we slid into the oncoming vehicle. Since we were in a sharp curve we were only going approximately 35-40 MPH. Yes, we were wearing seatbelts and the driver’s side air bag deployed, nearly choking us before we could get out of our vehicle. My shoulder be it wore me out, knocking the breath out of me and I’m still sore today, however it could have been much worse. Other than that, we were uninjured, but the other driver, who also was wearing a seat belt, had a knee injury. Remember, when on the road, we don’t know what is coming at us or what is around the next curve, so be careful.
