Skyhawks fall to Poca, finish 6-16

The Scott Skyhawks dropped a 66-57 decision at Poca last Friday night to conclude regular season action with a 6-16 record.

Poca led 30-28 at halftime and 47-46 after three periods before the host Dots pulled away from Scott with a 19-11 fourth stanza spurt.

Noah Cotrill tallied a game-high 27 points to pace Poca, now 12-10. Matt Orcutt added 16 points for the Dots.

Timmy Hudson (15) and Carl Shaffer (12) combined for 27 points to pace the Scott scoring. Donovan Pearson and Marcus Linville contributed eight points each while Jared Jarrell added seven Scott markers.

Steven McComas and Tyler Thompson netted three points each while Trey Workman tallied one point.

The loss snapped a two-game winning streak (Winfield and Williamson) by the Skyhawks.

Scott was slated to face Chapmanville in Class AA sectional tourney play (at Logan) on Tuesday, Feb. 27 with the winner meeting Sherman’s Tide (15-7) this Friday evening (at Logan) for the AA Region Six, Section One title.

The winner of that Sherman-Scott-Chapmanville sectional will meet the Region Six, Section Two champ (Logan-Tolsia-Wayne) for the Region Six title and a trip to the state tourney.

Poca will clash with Point Pleasant This Thursday night (at U.C.) in AA sectional action. The winner of that contest will face Winfield this Saturday evening (at U.C.) for the Class AA Region Five, Section Two crown.

The Poca-Point Pleasant-Winfield winner will face the Region Five, Section One champ (Herbert Hoover-Ravenswood-Sissonville) for the AA Region Five crown and a state tourney berth.
