With the new digital mapping system, over a hundred residences in Madison will need to get new addresses, according to E-911 Administrator Danny Yeomans.

"Some apartment buildings have four or five addresses and that doesn't work with the new mapping system," he said. "Each address has its own dot in the system."

Instead of giving apartments 1/2 number addresses, each apartment would have the same address with an added apartment letter or number.

The digital mapping system will be used to help emergency workers and law enforcement officers find specific addresses in cases of fire or health emergencies.

  • The Madison Volunteer Fire Department was sorely in need of a new pumper truck, according to Firefighter and engineer Tony Carrico who spoke to the council on Monday.

"The heart of any fire department is the pumper truck," Carrico said.

Two years ago, the department was able to purchase a rescue truck thanks to the Assistance to Firefighters Grant, issued through the Department of Homeland Security.

In order to purchase the new vehicle, the department had to convert their two-year loan into a ten year loan.

The truck will be purchased at no cost to the city, according to Carrico.

The department expects delivery of the vehicle in May.

  • During the February meeting of the Madison council, the emergency services fee ordinance was passed, which requires that any non-resident of Boone County in an accident within city limits will be charged a service fee for rescue workers responding.

Since the ordinance passed, eleven accidents have occurred but none involved out of county drivers, according to Chief James "Blade" Lambert.

The fee is paid for through most insurance companies.
