Sherman girls defeat Indy, Clay; lose to Hoover, Ritchie County in Best ofthe Best

Errors. They can make or break you. For example, the Sherman Lady Tide faced Independence and Clay last week and in each game, the Maroon and Gold

committed only one error. Both of those games were won by the Lady Tide, 1-0 over Independence and a 1-0 decision over Clay.

However, against Hoover and Ritchie County, it was another story.

Against Hoover, the Sherman girls committed a total of six errors in a 10-0 whipping and again the next day in the Best of the Best at Buffalo, they had six errors in a 6-2 defeat; vs. Ritchie County in the Best of the Best, they committed a total of six errors in a 7-4 loss."We are beating ourselves," said Sherman head coach Jim Henderson. "It's hard to beat someone when you commit six errors. Take them away, and we are in pretty much every game."

The Lady Tide rolled over the Independence Lady Patriots on Monday, April 9 by a score of 1-0. Sherman ace India Stone pitched a gem, allowing just two hits and striking out 11.The Maroon and Gold ladies got the only run they needed in the fifth inning as freshman Jessica Hudson scored on a passed ball. Stone once again pitched well enough to win, scattering six hits and striking out 15, but she found herself on the losing side as the Lady Tide committed six errors.

"She pitched very well," Henderson said of Stone's performance. "Once again, we made too many mistakes." Senior catcher Angela Santonia finished the contest with a 2-3 showing. Stone added a base hit and a run scored; Workman had a hit and an RBI, and Bowman and senior Tanya Holmes also added base hits.Hudson crossed the plate for a run.

Ritchie County 7 Sherman 4
