The Catholic Community Services for the Whitesville/Pettus Food Pantry held it’s annual “Walk For Hunger” in Whitesville on Saturday, April 28th. Over 30 participants showed up to help raise funds and awareness of the services provided to Boone and Raleigh counties. The Food Pantry has grown to become a flexible and very important part of the community.

Each month groceries are given to 100-120 families at the Whitesville and Pettus locations. The Food Pantry helps families with food, clothing and basic household items when available as well as school supplies.

Local Churches and schools often conduct food drives to help replenish the food pantry. Amazing Grace Fellowship in Seth recently conducted a drive greatly helping restock the shelves. A grant was received from The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation last fall to purchase a covered trailer, making the hauling of the food much easier. Fruits and vegetables were also purchased with part of the grant to add to the food baskets.

Since not every need in the community is the same, the programs offered by the Catholic Community Services is open to all in the community who need help. Throughout the year bake sales and rummage sales are held to support projects being offered. If you, your church, business or civic group would like to conduct a food drive or make a donation your contributions would be most welcome, contact Sue Pauley, Outreach Worker at 854-1043.
