Volunteer firefighters from Madison and Danville successfully battled a fire at the Hobet mining complex in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to Boone 911 Director Jim Lambert, units from the Madison and Danville Volunteer Fire Departments responded to a call from Hobet mining at 03:29 for a reported belt-line fire. When units arrived, Lambert said they found approximately 500 feet of belt within the belt structure burning along with coal on the belt. Firefighters used a combination of water and foam to extinguish the fire.

There were no injuries and units were on the scene for about one hour. Lambert said the belt was on the outside of the mine and the fire was controlled and contained in about 15 minutes. There were no injuries.
