Pain and suffering has ended and joy has begun in his heavenly home for Billy Junior Cantley, 68, of Coopertown, Seth, who passed away May 30, 2007, at home after a long and courageous battle with malignant melanoma.
He was born at Whitesville, on Feb. 11, 1939, the son of Elsie Hill Cantley of Pettus and the late Charley Cantley.
Billy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother to a family who will greatly miss his presence and influence each day. He was a disabled coalminer since 1971, having been injured while employed by Omar Mining Company. Bill enjoyed all sports and coached Midget League Football and Little League Baseball and supported Sherman High School sports for many years. He was a fan of NASCAR and television sports.
Bill was a member of the Sylvester Baptist Church, United Mine Workers of America and served with the U.S. Marine Corps with tours of duty in the Mediterranean Sea and Southern European countries.
He was preceded in death by father; brother, Larry “Goosel” Cantley; and sister, Peggy Ann Baker.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Clara Mae; daughter, Connie Lynn Davis and husband, Jeff, of Pinch; sons, Billy Ray Cantley and wife, Missy, of Seth, Michael Paul Cantley and wife, Joanie, of St. Albans; adopted son and grandson, Cory Michael Cantley of Sylvester; grandchildren, Dylon Ray, Shanna and Adara Cantley; sister, Wanda Johnson and husband, Raymond, of Sundial; brothers, Harry Cantley of Whitesville, and David Cantley and wife, Peachie, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; special friend, Jenny Parsons of Peytona; numerous nieces and nephews; and a great number of friends and church family.
Service was June 2, at Sylvester Baptist Church with the Rev. David Minturn and Forrest Ramsey officiating. Singing was provided by Sande Minturn with Ralph Moran, organist.
Interment was in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, with military graveside rites by VFW Post #5578 Madison.
