He closes out a very successful career with the Maroon and Gold, scoring 985 points in only three and one half seasons, for a 12.6 scoring average and 75 per cent from the free throw line.
In his freshman season, Henderson averaged 7.9 points per game (174 points) and was a starter the last 10 games of the 2003-04 season.
His sophomore year, he finished with 246 points (including 17 three-point baskets) and a 10.7 average. He also shot 72 per cent from the foul line.
Henderson’s junior year was cut short by a knee injury, nine games into the season. He managed to score 145 points and averaged 16.1 points per game.
In his final season with the Tide, Henderson scored 420 points including 40 three pointers and he shot 76 percent from the charity stripe.
That was good for an 18.3 average during the 2006-07 hoop campaign.
“I feel that David played within the team concept,” said Tide coach Jim Henderson. “In his first two seasons, he was a great role player. He was our third scoring option. He was putting a nice season together until his knee injury his junior year. This season, he remained the same team player, knowing he had the opportunity to exceed 1,000 points, but he still made sure he hit the open man.”
Henderson enrolls at WVU Tech this fall.
