He was born August 15, 1919 at Bulger, Lincoln County and was the son of the late Eutice Smith and Vernie Gundy and stepfather Edward Hager.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Smith, sisters Marine Smith, Opal Page, Ruby Layne Ethal Ward, Mary Hager and one brother, Odell Smith.
He was a disabled veteran. He was a member of the Danville Church of Christ in which he attended till he got sick
He loved watching sports especially the West Virginia Mountianeers and the Scott High Skyhawks (Which he tried to go to every home game).
He is survived by five daughters and their husbands. Kim Hurley (Johnnie) of Madison whom he lived with, Debra Thompson (Tommy) of Danville, Lisa Holsinger (Steve) of Montross, Va., Carloyn Leathem (Greg) of King George, Va., Pam Hayter of Chester, Va. He had one Carlos Smith (Pam) of Foster, and one sister Jean Hager, of Danville, and 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and was waiting for the arrival of his great-grandchild due in March.
Funeral services was held Tuesday, Nov. 6 at Handley's Funeral Home with minister Kenneth Mitchell and Richard Runyon officiating. Burial was at Hager Cemetery in Danville.
