Boone County basketball teams tipped off the regular season this week.

In girls action, Tuesday marked the season openers for Sherman (at home versus Riverside) and Van (on the road against Tug Valley). Results for those games were unavailable for this week’s issue but will be printed in next week’s edition.

The Tide will host Herbert Hoover on Thursday (Dec. 6) and Cross Lanes Christian on Friday (Dec. 7), then will travel to Teays Valley Christian on Tuesday (Dec. 11).

The Bulldogs won’t play again until Dec. 14.

Scott will open its season Friday (Dec. 7) on the road against Class A perennial power Charleston Catholic.

In boys action, Sherman will open its season Tuesday (Dec. 11) at home against Independence.

Also on Tuesday, Scott’s boys and girls teams will participate in the annual West Virginia Hoops Classic at the Charleston Civic Center. The girls will face Lincoln, while the boys will play Grafton in their season opener.

The Hoops Classic is a five-day, 40-game event that will feature 80 boys and girls teams from around the state. It will begin Monday (Dec. 10) and end next Friday (Dec. 14).

Van will open its season Dec. 17 at home against Man.

Check out the Coal Valley News next week for the annual basketball preview, which will feature stories, photos, rosters and schedules for the three Boone County high schools’ boys and girls teams.
