Sherman completed a season sweep over Van, with the Tide and Lady Tide each besting the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs for the third time this season.
In the first game of the night, the Lady Tide picked up a 49-38 win over the Lady Bulldogs.
The loss ended Van’s three-game winning streak.
The score was tied at 10 after the first quarter, but Sherman pulled in front by four points at 21-17 entering the locker room at halftime.
The Lady Tide held the Lady Bulldogs to only two points in the third quarter. Van junior guard Meghan Pauley swished a jumper with five seconds remaining in the period to avoid the shutout and end an 18-0 run that gave Sherman a 39-19 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
“We played good in the second and third quarters,” said Sherman coach Terri Dawn Williams, whose team also beat Van 44-35 on Dec. 29 and 55-26 on Jan. 15. “We had too many fouls in the fourth quarter, but we still pulled out the win.”
The Lady Bulldogs used a 19-9 fourth-quarter scoring advantage to pull closer, but it was too little too late.
“We were in the game until halftime,” Van coach Jason Conrad said.
“Van played us for the whole game,” Williams added. “It was overall a good game and great hustle by both teams.”
The Lady Tide made 20-of-50 field goal attempts (40 percent) and 7-of-12 free throw attempts (58 percent). The Lady Bulldogs made 10-of-38 field goal attempts (26 percent) and 16-of-26 free throw attempts (61 percent).
Sherman had a 32-15 rebounding advantage.
“We just didn’t get any boards,” Conrad said. “We had enough to keep our hand in the game but not enough to get the win.”
Sophomore forward Madison Bowman led the Lady Tide in scoring, as she did in the rivals’ previous meetings, with 13 points. She also had 12 rebounds and two steals. She missed only one shot against the Lady Bulldogs.
Sophomore guard Megan Williams added 12 points, six boards and four steals. Sophomore forward Amanda Browning contributed 12 points and six rebounds.
Junior guard Brittany Merritt provided eight points, two steals and one rebound. Sophomore guard Crystal Halstead added two points, four boards and one block.
Sophomore guard Jessica Hudson had two points, one rebound and one steal.
Junior guard Kristen Jarrell led Van with 16 points, marking the first time in four games she failed to score 20 points or more. She had 20, 28 and 28 during the Lady Bulldogs’ three-game winning streak. Jarrell added three steals, two rebounds and one block against the Lady Tide.
Pauley also scored 16 points and added three boards, three steals and one block. Junior forward Erin Cook contributed four points and three boards.
Sophomore forward Hannah Brown provided two points, four rebounds, one block and one steal.
The Lady Bulldogs played much of the game without junior center Savannah Holland, a starter who was in foul trouble.
“We couldn’t use Savannah because of a book error,” Conrad said. “They had her down for four fouls in the second quarter, when she only had three. She was the anchor for our pressure and it didn’t work as well without her.”
Holland re-entered the game in the fourth quarter and never picked up her fifth and final foul. She ended the game with three blocks, two boards and one steal.

In the second game of the night, the Tide rolled to a 73-50 win over the Bulldogs.
“It was a win,” said Sherman coach Chris Duncan, whose team also beat Van 58-27 on Dec. 21 and 66-39 on Jan. 15. “It wasn’t pretty, but we’ll take it.”
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Tide and continued a 10-game skid for the Bulldogs.
Van scored seven of the game’s first nine points, but Sherman rallied for a 12-11 lead after the first quarter.
The Tide never trailed again, leading 33-19 at halftime and 61-35 after the third quarter.
“They stretched the lead in the second on us,” Van coach Nick Bias said. “We had three or four trips inside, but couldn’t score the points.”
With five minutes remaining in the third quarter, a power outage left half of the gym in darkness. It took 15 minutes for administrators to turn on the lights again.
The Bulldogs had a 15-12 fourth-quarter scoring advantage, but — like their female counterparts — it was too little too late.
Sherman made 37-of-51 field goal attempts (54 percent) and 5-of-13 free throw attempts (38 percent).
“We weren’t fired up tonight,” said Duncan, whose team made seven three-pointers. “We have been struggling lately and we let them hang around until late in the game.”
Van made 18-of-33 field goal attempts (54 percent) and 8-of-17 free throw attempts (47 percent).
“We missed a lot of easy shots,” said Bias, whose team connected on six three-pointers. “We missed those easy points under the basket, and that lost the game for us.
“But we played 110 times better tonight than we did against Buffalo. I don’t believe the final score speaks of how well we played tonight.”
Sherman senior guard Seth Smith played for the first time in four games after serving a three-game suspension for an altercation during the Scott-Sherman game on Jan. 18.
“It was nerve-racking to get back out there,” Smith said. “I was excited and I couldn’t wait to come back.”
Smith got over his nerves nicely, scoring 13 points, recording three steals and grabbing one rebound.
Sophomore forward Justin Maloskey led the Tide with 20 points, most of which came on putbacks off his 13 boards. He also added two steals.
The 6-foot-3 Maloskey missed only two shots against the Bulldogs, including two attempts on which he was fouled but still scored the bucket.
Sophomore guard Colby Treadway scored 15 points and grabbed four boards. Senior center Brandon Adkins contributed eight points, seven rebounds, two blocks and one steal.
Senior forward Dustin Gillespie and junior guard Brandon Lovejoy added five points and three boards apiece.
Sophomore guard Jacob Rollo was limited to four points, but he contributed three steals and two rebounds.
Freshman guard Justin Woodrum added two points and three boards. Sophomore forward Johnathan Bowman added two points and one board.
Senior guard Corey Castle led the Bulldogs with 16 points. He also had five steals, two boards and one block.
“Corey had a good game for us tonight,” Bias said.
Junior guard Jarred Thomas added 13 points, four steals, three rebounds and one block.
Senior guard Jeremy Gannon, who is the Bulldogs’ leading scorer, finished with only seven points, two boards and two steals after fouling out with three minutes left in the third quarter.
“Jeremy’s foul out hurt us tonight,” Bias said. “He is one of our main ballhandlers and top scorers.”
Junior forward Jordan Puckett scored five points and grabbed nine boards. Sophomore forward Alex Adkins added four points and six rebounds.
Junior forward Roger Runion contributed three points, four boards and one block. Sophomore forward Loren Harshbarger provided two points and eight boards.
