On Sunday, March 16, 2008, Delores Dolin Hopkins “Wootzie” surrounded by her loved ones in the home of her daughter, Susan Watkins in Burlington, N.C., went home to be with the Lord after a long illness. She was born March 21, 1924, to the late Clyde W. and Grace Ann Bias Dolin in Ottawa. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Beaulah Pearl Dolin Dodd and Jean Dolin Meadows and a brother, John Dolin. She graduated from the Charleston General Hospital School of Nursing. She practiced nursing both in Boone and Kanawha County. She was an active member of bridge clubs, garden clubs and was Girl Scout Troop 108 leader for many years.

She was a developing pioneer in garden therapy programs for local mental health facilities in Ashland, Ky. She was a loving mentor, friend and neighbor to all who knew her. She touched many lives over her life span. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Lilburn M. Hopkins whom she married June 25, 1950, in the Danville Baptist Church. She was a wonderful mother to two daughters, her eldest daughter, Marty and Jim Mullins of St. Albans, grandsons, Matthew and Michael Mullins, and one great-grandson; her youngest daughter, Susan Hopkins Watkins of Burlington, N.C., and her children, Erica Watkins Barrett and her spouse, David Barrett, of Willow Springs, N.C., and Evan P. Watkins, also of Burlington, N.C. She is also survived by loving brother, Earl Dolin of Ottawa, and a large loving family too countless to mention. While ill, she was given excellent care by Elizabeth Vaivao, Connie McAdams and Josilyne Nunez. These individuals are still in support of her husband, “Pete” today.

She is gone but never forgotten. Funeral service was 1 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, with the Rev. Terry Holley officiating. Burial followed at Boone Memorial Park, Madison.

Memorials to Hospice of Almance-Caswell County, Black Diamond Girl Scout Council are appreciated or flowers to the funeral home.
