Is it just me or do the weeks seem to be flying by? I can’t believe we are already in the middle of May. School will be out soon and summer will be in full swing.

Deepest sympathy wishes go out to the family of Carol Anne Halstead, 61, of Bob White, who passed away April 25 at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT

The American Heritage Girls Troop 2613, which is chartered through the Van Christian Faith Academy, has been busy helping its community.

The girls have been cleaning up at the Van and Twilight community parks. They also have helped the Veterans of Foreign Wars with poppies at Magic Mart and Foodland. The troop also hosted a VFW appreciation breakfast on May 10.

The troop leaders are Mary Miller and Jennifer Bunner. Congratulations to all of the girls for all of their hard work and a big thank you to them for showing such love and kindness to their community. We are very proud of you!

SCHOOL NEWS

Van High School's sports banquet is scheduled for May 17 at 5:30 p.m.

Van Christian Faith Academy's graduation is set for May 18.

Van High School's honor banquet is scheduled for May 19.

Van Elementary School's Parent Teacher Organization meeting is set for May 20.

Van High School's graduation is scheduled for May 23 at 6 pm.

COMMUNITY NEWS

There will be a spring art fair at the Danville Community Center on May 24 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and May 25 from noon until 4 p.m. Original oil paintings will be on display and exhibited as well as some portraits that will be available for purchasing. Everyone is welcome to attend. Paintings are offered by Boone County artists.

CHURCH NEWS

There will be a flea market at the Greenwood Church Of God on May 17 beginning at 9 a.m. Spaces are available for rent at $10 with a table provided while supplies last. There also will be a hot dog and bake sale featuring Krispy Kreme doughnuts, cookies, candy and other goodies. Call 247-6549 to reserve a table. The flea market will be held outside.
