The Racine Community Educational Outreach Service Club (CEOS) met in regular session on Tuesday, July 1, at the home of Anna Mae Shriver.

Meeting was called to order bv the President, Judy Michael. Devotional was given by Vi Snodgrass and prayer by Rev. Dan Light. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved and Treasurer report filed.

Old Business: Update was given on the West Virginia Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program’s “Quilt of Hope” donations that have been received so far. Frankie Gay, Boone County Belle, gave a brief report of her trip to the W.Va. Folk Festival in Glenville. Club will sponsor a child to attend the 4-H Camp in July. Annual donations were made to the Racine Boy Scout Troop #45 and the Racine Volunteer Fire Department. Annual donation of miscellaneous items were made to the Energy Express program at Ashford-Rumble Elementary. Judy Michael and Ruth Ann Elkins will attend the National Volunteer Outreach Network (NVON) July 11-13 at the Marriott in Charleston.

New Business: Future display dates for the “Quilt of Hope” were set. Approval has been received to place a bench at the John Slack Memorial Park and a tree will be planted there in memory of Mary Frye. Poems and short stories need to be submitted at the August meeting for judging at the W.V. Annual Conference at Jackson’s Mill in October. Club will receive its 65th anniversary on August 19, 1943.

Jenny and Dan Light gave a very interesting presentation on their 29th trip to Israel. They sang three songs in Hebrew, displayed items they purchased and had lots of pictures to share with members. Dan brought his rams horn so we could hear the sounds that were made when blowing it as mentioned numerous times in the Bible.

The next regular meeting will be August 5 at 7 p.m., at the Community Center. Hostess will be Betty Watson, Mary Tamplin, Jenny Light and Ruth Ann Elkins. Programs on Chicken Scratch Embroidery will be presented by Shirley Garretson. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Racine CEOS club or interested in organizing a CEOS club in your area, please contact the Boone County Extension office at 369-5869.
