Susan Adkins is a longtime resident of Boone County who previously worked at Twice As Nice in downtown Madison before venturing out to create and manager her own business, Purse-N-Ality.

As the name suggests, Purse-N-Ality carries an assortment of ladies purses, catering to area women of all ages. Her selections range from small pocketbooks, designer evening bags, to lunch bags. Adkins diversified her inventory to include purse accessories, such as rhinestone pins and earrings.

Adkins held the grand opening for the store this past week, and within hours sales were mounting – and with her inventory’s prices ranging from a mere $10 to $40.

“Right now $33 is the max. I do have some purses coming in that are in the $40 range,” she said.

Looking around the boutique takes time, as one of Adkins’ first customers happily declared during her shopping spree.

From animal print pocketbooks to hand-quilted handbags, the selections are as varied as they are unique to this area.

“Some of my family members love purses and it’s a shame that they have to go all the way to Charleston to find something unique and unusual,” Adkins said, explaining how she became interested in selling purses.

Located conveniently on Main Street, near Pig Out BBQ, Purse-N-Ality is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. “We’re going to try and extend our hours to 7 p.m. on Wednesday,” Adkins said.

Also unique to her store, Adkins has plans to make available to customers purses in the colors of Scott High School (black and gold) as football season revs up.
