SHADY SPRING -- The Sherman Tide just didn't have the consistency needed to roll over the Shady Spring Tigers in an 18-14 loss in high school football action Friday night.

Senior Brandon Lovejoy’s pre-game illness only compounded the Tide’s troubles.

Sherman junior quarterback Colby Treadway snapped a scoreless tie with 5:40 remaining in the first half, when he threw a touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Jacob Rollo. Sophomore kicker David Chapman added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

Treadway added another touchdown 33 seconds before halftime, capping an eight-play, 55-yard scoring drive. Chapman's extra point gave the Tide a 14-0 lead.

The Tigers scored 18 unanswered points in the third quarter to earn a come-from-behind victory in front of their homecoming crowd.

Shady Spring limited Sherman to 75 yards on 24 carries. Treadway had 40 yards on 10 carries.
Sophomore tailback Jake Halstead ran 10 times for 20 yards. Junior tailback Gage Halstead ran four times for 15 yards.

Treadway completed 13-of-28 passes for 154 yards and one touchdown. Rollo had four catches for 63 yards and one score. Junior wide receiver Tyler Boulet added 44 yards on four receptions. Jake Halstead contributed four catches for 30 yards.

Treadway averaged 34.8 yards on five punts.

Junior Jonathan Bowman had nine tackles, including one for loss. Junior Johnny Johnson contributed eight tackles, one of which was behind the line of scrimmage.

Senior Jeff Elian had seven tackles and the game’s only interception. Chapman contributed seven tackles, including one for loss, and recovered one fumble.

“We just need to get consistent,” Sherman coach Shann Elkins said.

Sherman (1-5) will travel to Hico to take on Midland Trail (3-3) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Shady Spring (5-2) will host Scott (4-2) on the same night and at the same time.
