Last Friday and Saturday nights, the mercury dipped down into serious cold temperatures, but that didn’t stop the Jaycees Haunted House from moving along.

In its second decade, the event, held in the last two weekends of October, is held to help support the community functions such as assisting with Secret Santa and other charitable functions.

Jaycee members who participate in the haunted house seem to have a taste for the hunt. They seem to enjoy being able to scare people and have them come back for more.

Jaycee event organizer Shawn Walker said many visitors to the house come back sometimes two and three times each weekend.

“It amazes me how people get so scared of a guy in a costume, mask and a chainsaw without a blade in it,” Walker said. “They will literally let our actors chase them through the parking lot in the dark and act as if it’s real.”

On both Friday and Saturday, guests of the haunted house stood in line for up to an hour to gain admittance to the scare fest.

This year, Jaycees began work on the house in mid-August, and was still preparing the house as late as one week ago.

The Jaycees Haunted House continues on Oct 24, 25, 31, and Nov.1. Cost is $5.00 and doors open at 7:00 each evening.
