Octoberfest is a big hit at Sherman

Sherman Elementary school held their Octoberfest Oct.2. During the day activities were held for students which consisted of learning about Appalachian culture.

The school also held a hillbilly Olympics for all the students. The winning homerooms received a golden plunger for their classroom. Each class carried a class flag.

During the evening, the students enjoyed food, entertainment, activities for children, and good fellowship. The community voted for the best scarecrow from grades K-6. The Kindergarten class won this contest.

The highlight of the evening was the crowning of the 2008 Possum Queen, Lolita Coon. Lolita has bee a member of the community for many years and is a member of the CEOs and Comfort Presbyterian Church.

The Octoberfest is held the first Thursday in October each year.
