An Ashford resident was nabbed by law enforcement last week in a bumbling gun theft attempt.

According to a complaint filed in Boone County Magistrate Court by Deputy Justin Morgan, the sheriff’s deputy alleged that last Thursday night Mark Anthony Graley, 22, parked his car in the driveway of Kathy Chandler, also of Ashford, and “entered the back of the home with the intent to steal guns.”

Morgan’s report said Chandler came home and found Graley’s vehicle sitting in the driveway and saw him exiting her residence. Chandler’s statement said the alleged burglar was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, which partially covered his face.

Chandler was able to describe the suspect’s vehicle and gave police a license number, which came back to Graley.

Morgan charged that Graley threw the stolen guns into a grassy area of Ashford before he was arrested during a routine traffic stop. The complaint also stated Graley gave deputies a statement admitting to the crime. The man was charged with felony larceny and burglary counts and at press time was housed in the Southwestern Regional Jail in lieu of bond.
