Hello! I hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween. I saw a variety of costumes this year. My kids have enough candy to last them until next Halloween.

October really went by fast for me. It's hard to believe Thanksgiving is just a few short weeks away.

BIRTHDAYS

Happy birthday to Courtney Kiddy, of Van, on Nov. 4.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to my dad, Captain William Randall White, who was chosen as Officer of The Year by the YWCA during its Domestic Violence Awareness Candlelight Vigil. We are all very proud of you for all of your hard work. We love you, from Pam, David, Cara, Chad, Brianne, Garrett, Chandler, Jagger, Maddiex and Cambri.

SYMPATHY

Our deepest sympathies go to the family of Gary Lee Workman, 66, of Gordon, who passed away on Oct. 23 at home after a short illness. We are keeping all of you in our thoughts and prayers.

SCHOOL NEWS

There will be a Family Times event at Wharton Elementary School on Nov. 13 at 4:30 p.m. Call Laura Gibson of VISTA or Margaret Prue of LifeBridge at (304) 247-6294 for more information.

Wharton Elementary School's Parent Teacher Association thanks everyone who attended its Halloween dance. The turnout was great!

CHURCH NEWS

The Star of Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church at Twilight and its pastor, Rev. Melvin Messer, invite everyone to attend their services Sunday mornings at 10:30, Sunday evenings at 7 and Wednesday evenings at 7. The church will have dinner at noon and afternoon service at 2 on the second Sunday of each month. Brother Bob Deal will bring the message this Sunday.

If you have any information you want to see in this column, please send it to me at vanwhartonnews@yahoo.com or 467 James Branch Road, Wharton, WV 25208. You also can call me at (304) 247-6917. If I am not home, please leave me a message. I need your information by 5 p.m. on Thursdays.

Until next week, take care.
