Everyone is invited to attend the Miners Memorial Service on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Nellis Mine Explosion Memorial, which is located near the Historic Nellis Church/Archives and Nellis Elementary School.

In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held in the Nellis Elementary School gym. This event will commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Nellis Mine Explosion, which took the lives of 11 miners. Come and join the Boone County Historic Landmark Commission, Nellis Elementary School and Friends of the Nellis Church/Archives in remembering not only those 11 miners, but also all of the miners who lost their lives in Boone County mining accidents.

Special congratulations to Bobbi Hutchison and Luke Martin on their engagement announcement. Wedding plans are set for May 9, 2009. Bobbi is the daughter of Tom and JoAnna Hutchison, of Elkview, formerly of Nellis.

A hot dog and bake sale is planned for Nov. 8 at the Mahone Chapel Church from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. All proceeds will toward the church’s Christmas charities, food baskets and coats.
