I hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving holidays.

It is the most traveled holiday weekend of the year. Hopefully, it was a safe one for those traveling to visit family and friends.

Last Friday, the 2008 Christmas shopping season officially began with many traveling to the malls as early as 4 a.m. Bargains were to be found, if you were willing to get up and go out and enjoy the crowds. Me, I’ll just wait until later!

In the Nov. 11 B.A.R.N. column, there was a recipe for a Dream Cake. One of the ingredients was 1/4 cup of “icing sugar,” which is powdered sugar or confectioners sugar. I received a phone call asking what icing sugar was and nobody seemed to know. Thanks to the Internet, I found the answer. I thought I would pass that tidbit on to others who might have wondered what icing sugar was.

VISITING/TRAVELING

The children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the late Fred and Virginia Dew McComas gathered for Thanksgiving dinner at the home of Jack and Judy Charcandy in Madison. The children present were Janice Elkins, of Elizabeth; Tom McComas, of Nellis; Judy Charcandy; Joyce Leshon, of St. Albans; Jean Graley, of Emmons; June Gurski, of Nellis; Joan Fizer, of St. Albans; and Freddie McComas, of Elkhart, Ind.

Mark and Ronda Barker Thompson and their son, Brody, of Goodlettsville, Tenn., visited family and friends in our area the past week.

David Lee Barker and his children, Brittany, Destiny and Aaron, from Indiana, visited his parents, Wilkie and Sue Barker, of Nellis, during the Thanksgiving holidays.
