An early deficit led to another loss for Sherman, which dropped a 45-37 decision to host Burch last Monday.
The Lady Tide trailed 8-4 after the first quarter but rallied to pull within 17-14 at halftime.
“We dug ourselves a hole early on,” Sherman coach Terri Dawn Williams said. “They were up 14-4 before we made a comeback.”
The Lady Tide again shrank the Lady Bulldogs' lead, making it a two-point game at 27-25 after the third quarter. Sherman briefly grabbed the lead in that period, but Burch regained it at the buzzer.
The Lady Bulldogs pulled away in the fourth quarter.
A pair of Sherman starters fouled out early in the fourth quarter, leaving holes in the lineup that Burch found and exploited.
“We got down late in the fourth quarter and had to foul," Williams said, "but they made their foul shots, so it didn’t help us out.
“We missed a lot of easy shots. Our defense played well and we made a good effort, but we just couldn’t make the shots when we needed to.”
Junior guard Megan Williams led the Lady Tide with 11 points. Junior forward Madison Bowman had nine points.
Junior guard Jessica Hudson scored six points. Junior guard Crystal Halstead contributed five points. Senior guard Brittany Merritt provided four points. Junior forward Amanda Browning added two points.
Junior guard Kimberly Smith led Burch with 14 points.
Sherman was scheduled to play host to Liberty Raleigh on Friday, but that game was rescheduled for Monday because inclement weather closed Boone County schools. Sherman also was scheduled to host Boone County rival Van on Tuesday. Results for those games -- if they were played given the winter weather -- were unavailable for this week's issue but will be published in next week’s edition.
Sherman will host Westside on Thursday and visit Herbert Hoover on Friday.
