George Lawrence Wolfe, Sr., 83 of Nellis went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 with his family and cat Molly by his side. To his family and friends, George was known as "Blackeye. Blackeye was a Christian.
Blackeye served in the US Army from February 1951 to February 1953 and was a member of the 1353 Laborers International Union of North America.
Blackeye was the son of the late Herbert and Mary Wolfe of Costa.
Blackeye was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Wanda Lucille Wolfe in 2008, his eldest son George Lawrence Wolfe, Jr., in 2010. Eight brothers and sisters, Charles Wolfe, Donald Wolfe, Judith Conley, Sadie Zirkle, Edith Hutton, Edna Zirkle, Eleanor "Jimmy" Graley, and Rose Proctor.
Blackeye is survived by his sister, Maggie Graley of Alum Creek, five children, Sue Mooney (Randy) of Peytona, Roger Wolfe (Tanya) of Nellis, Debi Kinder (Randell) of Ashford, Angie Wolfe of Peytona and Patricia Jordan (fiancé Tony Addison) of Prince. Daughter in law Libby Wolfe and his special friend of the family Teresa Jarrell.
Surviving grandchildren are Christy Thomas of Peytona, Sherri Armstrong (David) of Ashford, Tabitha Parcell (Britt) of Lewisburg, Stacy Hall (Mike) of Nellis, Rachel Hager (Timmy) of Nellis, Roger Wolfe (Kimmie) of Conway SC, Josaiah Kinder of Charleston, Bethany and Tessa Kinder of Ashford.
Blackeye had nine great grandchildren who loved him dearly. McKenzie and Matthew Thomas, Sydney Perdue, Ethan Barker and Rileigh Reed, Elyssa and TJ Hager, and Anika and Taryn Wolfe.
Blackeye enjoyed going to his camp in Pocahontas County and working in his garden. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was loved by all.
Pallbearers: Matt Thomas, David Armstrong, Britt Parcell, Mike Hall, Timmy Hager and Josaiah Kinder.
The funeral was held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home; 2097 Childress Rd Alum Creek with Pastors Randell Kinder and Danny Kinder Sr. officiating. Final resting place will be at Barker Cemetery in Ashford with military rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Ashton Care Center, Dr. Triplett, the ICU and PCU staff at St. Francis Hospital, and Hospice Care for taking great care of Dad.

Carlie Josephine Dent Akers, 89, of Six Mile formerly of Isom died February 21, 2012 at Trinity Health Care of Logan.
She was born January 22, 1923 in Hewett, WV and was a daughter of the late Bob and Sadie Dent of Hewett. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Akers; daughter, Linda Kay Mills; sons, Kenneth Zane, Ronnie Keith, Bobby Ray and Craig Darian; sister, Arcella Ball; and brothers, Kenneth, Curtis, Oran and Ora.
She was a homemaker and a Christian. She was a member of Meadow Fork Baptist Church of Hewett.
She is survived by two daughters, Laura Mae Sauvageau of Hagerstown, MD and Adele Amber Holton of Danville; two sons, Marvin Dwain (Lawana) Akers of Six Mile and Carson (Sheila) Akers of Isom; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Glada (Russell) Scott of Painesville, Ohio, Glenna Jeffrey of Hewett, WV and Vida (Art) Mason of Madison, Ohio; and one brother, Jerry Dent of Paineville, Ohio.
Services were at 2 p.m. Friday, February 24 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with the Rev. Roger McCauley officiating. Burial will follow in Baldwin Cemetery, Isom, WV.
Jackie Lee Riggs

Jackie Lee Riggs, 54, of Julian was born January 5, 1958 and passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at his home.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hedrick Riggs; two sons, Jason Scott Riggs and Eric James Riggs both of Charleston; one daughter, Thelma Bias at home; parents, Leonard and Maxine Riggs of Yawkey; one sister, Catherine Brumfield of Yawkey; three brothers, Wayne Riggs of St. Albans, Aaron Riggs of Belle and Keith Riggs of St. Albans.
Services were on Friday, February 24 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Roe Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Kinder Cemetery, Brushton.
Bill Allen Thurmond
Bill Allen Thurmond, 80, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 at the Toumey Regional Medical Center in Sumter, S.C.
Born in Mahan, W. Va., on May 13, 1931 to Allen Barton and Mary Galloway Thurmond. He was a coal miner, an Army Veteran from the Korean War, a police officer, Chief of Police in S.C. and retired as a Security Guard for the Campbell's Soup Company in S.C.
He is survived by daughter Delilah Farmer; twins Allen Byerly and Lisa Marie and three grandchildren, all of Sumter, S.C.;brothers Dennie and Roger Dale Mahone, both of Georgia; and sisters Margaret Cooper of Ohio, Mary Walker and Evelyn Adkins, both of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Stilson, John, James and Walter; Sisters Eleane Hager, Pauline McNeely and Mae Scraggs; first wife Marie Barker and children Nancy, Timothy and Terry, of Ohio.
Bill was laid to rest on Feb. 22, 2012 at Sumter Cemetary in Sumter, S.C., next to the mother of his twins, Linda Hill Sanders, formerly of Madison, W.Va.
