The Sutter Law Firm donates bicycle helmets to local school system
by FROM STAFF REPORTS
John Sutter, a local attorney who represents many families in Boone and Kanawha counties says “we want children to have a fun summer, but more importantly, a safe summer.” The Sutter Law Firm has represented many clients who have suffered permanent, catastrophic brain damage from traumatic brain injury (TBI). Mr. Sutter continued by saying, “We want to underscore that bicycle helmets reduce brain injury, and protecting our children is the most important thing we can do as parents…. as members of the community, we want to do our part to get the word out.”
According to the Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute, the most serious injuries among those killed in motor vehicle bicycle deaths are to the head, highlighting the importance of wearing a bicycle helmet. Helmet use has been estimated to reduce head injury risk by 85 percent. Ninety-one percent of bicyclists killed in 2008 and 2009 reportedly were not wearing helmets.
The donation of 125 bicycle helmets were taken to the Boone County School Board across the street from the Boone County Court House in Madison W.V. on May 24, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Eddie Weikle of the Boone County School Board received them from attorney Roger A. Decanio. Mr. Weikle will distribute them among various elementary schools.
