On July 11th Madison will have its first ever Mixed Martial Arts Gym. On June 1st the Lights Out Boxing Gym opened on the fifth floor of the Madison Professional building and is home to over 10 professional boxers and many amateurs.
Most of the gym members have or will have competed at the King of the Coal Fields boxing events. Due to a large number of requests for MMA training owner Chase Hill has decided to expand. “I love boxing and I love MMA. If I look down on the ground and two ants are fighting I’ll watch that too. “
Quicksand MMA will be located at 331 State Street in Madison on the 5th floor of the Madison professional building. The gym is open for boxing and MMA Monday through Friday 6-9pm. Quicksand MMA’s coach, founder, and gym manager is James Mon from Chapmanville who Hill speaks very highly of. “When it comes to running a fighting gym there are two things that are most important and that’s equipment and coaching. I have tried my best to fill the gym with the best, newest, state of the art equipment, and with James I know I have the right guy as the Coach.”
James Mon has 17 years of fighting experience. He won 2 toughman competitions in Mooresville, NC. He was the Night of Fury tournament Champion in Charlotte, NC. He won the Bronze medal at the Gracie World competition in Columbus, OH. He has competed in boxing, kickboxing, point sparring, and jujitsu all over the east coast. He currently holds belts in 3 different mixed martial arts. He is also the founder of Monster Fighting Systems. He is currently under the ranking of Butch Hiles. James is also a certified personal trainer.
“James is a great fighter and has a lot of passion for the sport and teaching it, but as good as he is of a coach he’s a better person. I want the kids in my gym to be able to look up to their coach as a role model,” Hill said.
James Mon will be at the gym on Wednesdays and Fridays from 7-9 for instruction. Gym member are able to use the gym Monday through Friday but MMA class with James is only Wednesdays and Fridays. Grand opening is Next Wednesday July 11th. If you have any questions please call 304-601-9467 or 304-785-9124.
