Boone County Fair
Boone County Fair announces Fair will start July 29 with the car and bike show scheduled at the Fairgrounds. Registration is noon to 2 p.m. All cars and bikes qualify.
Cuties Contest will be Monday evening, July 30, starting at 6 p.m.

County Fair officials announce “Boone County Cuties” contest
If your child is zero months through six-years-old (girl or boy), come join us July 30 at 6 p.m. at the fairgrounds in Lick Creek for the Boone County Cuties contest.
Trophies will be presented in every age division, and the child with the most points will be awarded the “Grand Champion” of the Boone County Fair. The Grand Champion will be the Grand Marshall in the BCF parade on August 4.
The grand prize will be a cash award of $200.
The points do not include the optionals. The optionals are: most beautiful eyes: most beautiful hair: best dressed; and most photogenic. Please circle the optionals you choose.
To qualify for the grand prize the cost is $50.00 with each optional being $10.
You do not have to do the optionals to try for the Grand Champion. You may do Grand Champ and all optionals for $70.
Age divisions are:
Zero through 11 months, 12 months through 23 months, 24 months through 35 months, 36 months through 47 months, and four years through six years.
Just fill out an application with child’s name, age, address, birthdate, parents’ names, if it is a boy or girl, hair color, eye color and telephone number along with a check and mail it to Boone County Fair Association, Virginia Messer, P.O. box 127, Van, WV 25206.
The deadline is July 27th. Hurry and help us find the Boone County Cutie of 2012!

There will be a horse in Danville Friday, July 13, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 14, at 6 p.m. at the Lick Creek Show Grounds. This is a SWVHA State Championship Show.
Back to School Bash
Boone Memorial Hospital, Inc. is partnering with the Fountain of Life Worship Center to over various services/tests at their annual “Back to School Bash” this month. Services are free of charge that day other than a few minimal costs for some of the testing BMH, Inc. will provide. The church will provide free food, huge inflatables for the kids, christian music/concerts throughout the day among other family fun events. Keep in mind BMH clinicians will offer sports physicals for athletes at the event for only $10.
The event is scheduled for Saturday July 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fountain of Life Worship Center at Rock Creek (Boone County).

Boone County WIC
The Boone County WIC office will once again be offering the Farmers Market Vouchers. These vouchers will be given out to those participants that are currently on WIC. The participant must be up-to-date on their appointments and must bring their WIC folder with them. Qualified WIC participants may come in to the WIC office from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. on the following Tuesdays: July: 17, or 24. August: 14, 21, or 28. Madison VFW Post 5578 is building a Veteran’s Memorial to honor mothers of veterans and veterans. Purchase a brick for $50. The American Red Cross will be at Whitesville Elementary School on Tuesday, July 17, from 1 to 6 p.m. for a Blood Drive. Call 304-854-1301 for your appointment to donate blood. It’s very much needed and appreciated.
TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets every Thursday at the Fountain of Life Worship Center, Rock Creek. The entrance is on the left side of the building. Weigh in is from 5 to 5:30 p.m. TOPS is a nonprofit Weight Loss support group. Membership is $28 a year which includes a monthly magazine. Games and incentives are used weekly for weight loss motivation. TOPS is open to men, women and children seven years or older.

The 6th Annual Scott High School Men’s Varsity & Junior Varsity Basketball Team and Golf Benefit and Dinner is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at 10 a.m. (Shotgun Start) It will be a scramble format at Riverview Country Club.

King of the Coal Fields III
King of the Coal Fields III will be held at the Madison Civic Center on July 28, 2012, at 7 p.m. It will be a pro-am event and will include around five professional fights. Zack Kuhn from Madison will be fighting along with several other professional fighters.
2012 Photo Fund Drive
The Danville Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting a 2012 Photo Fund Drive with all proceeds going toward updating rescue and fire equipment. A $20 donation you get a complimentary 11X14 family portrait. The portraits are taken at the Danville Fire Station from noon to 5 p.m., Sunday, July 15. No appointment is need and walk-ins are welcome.

Sherman High School’s classes of 1950, 1951, and 1952 will hold a joint Class Reunion on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Holiday Inn & Suites (formerly Ramada Inn) in South Charleston. Appalachian Council Head Start/Pre-K
Appalachian Council Head Start is now accepting applications for the 2012-2013 school-year. Children must be 3 or 4 years old by September 1, 2012. Services are available for children with disabilities or special needs. There is no fee required for entrance into Head Start.

Energy Express is still taking applications for mentors (college students) to serve at 3 sites this summer. Whitesville, Ramage, and Nellis Elemetary schools will host this 6 week reading program again in Boone County until July 27.
Mentors will receive an educational tuition award for $1,175 and a living allowance for $1,850.
Work with up to 8 children on reading, art, writing, etc., and eat 2 family style meals with them every day. Usually, the EE staff is at the site about 6 hours.
