SETH — The Sherman Lady Tide improved its record to 6-7 on the season with a 52-46 victory against the Liberty Raleigh Lady Raiders last Friday. The game scheduled for last Thursday against Westside was cancelled due to school closings. No make up date has been arranged due to limited time before the sectional tournament begins. The Lady Tide jumped out early on the visiting team, posting a 10-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. Sherman extended its lead to 22-12 by halftime. The Lady Raiders cut the Tide lead by two after three quarters of play, but it was not enough as the home team took a 32-24 lead. The game ended with a final score of 52-46, giving the Lady Tide its sixth win on the season. “At times we played really well,” Sherman coach Terri Dawn Williams said. “We moved the ball well, had a bunch of steals, and converted well, but the game was closer than it should have been. We made some mistakes and got into foul trouble early.” Junior guard Megan Williams led all players in scoring with 24 points. She also added eight rebounds and six assists. “Megan shot the ball exceptionally well,” Williams said. “She made eight foul shots in the final two minutes to seal the game for us.” Junior forward Madison Bowman added 12 points, 12 rebounds and five steals giving her two double-doubles in as many games. Junior guard Jessica Hudson added eight points. Senior guard Brittany Merritt added four points. Junior forward Amanda Browning added three points, nine boards and four steals. Senior forward Taylor Dodrill added one point and seven boards. For Liberty Raleigh, Melissa Long added 16 points. The Lady Tide played host to the Poca Lady Dots Tuesday. Results for that were unavailable but will be published in next week’s issue. They also play host to Van today and Herbert Hoover on Thursday. The Lady Tide have five games remaining before the sectional tournament begins on Feb. 24.
