When one reads the newspaper, watches the evening news, or observes life all about us, one can become overwhelmed with the task of trying to make the appropriate changes in the lives of those who despair. We should remember those people in the past who were used to make a difference in the lives of many, or perhaps just in one person‘s life. While we know we cannot look into the past, we can lead some poor sinner to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus. There are certain characteristics which we can possess that will help us to make a difference in this world we live in.
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE THROUGH OUR PRAISE
Only the Christian can truly praise the Lord. Yet in many of our churches on Sunday morning there is no evidence of praise during the song service. I have sat on the platforms at different church’s on Sunday morning and observed the praise being given by the congregation through song. I have often thought, “What must a poor lost sinner think as he looks about him and sees so little praise given by those who claim to be Christians!” “Sing praises to the Lord, which
dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings” (Psalms 9:11).
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people: that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Peter 9:11).
How many times have you heard a person say they have the joy, joy, joy, down in their hearts, yet it apparently is so far down in their heart that no one can even see it! Folks are not able to see into your hearts. The only way people will know you have the joy of the Lord is if you express it on your face with a smile. I have heard people say, “Will, I used to have the joy of the Lord until I got told off while soul sinning!” Yet Christ tells us in Matthew 5:11,12, “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness” sake: for their’s is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.” Rather than feeling sorry for yourself when you are verbally abused because of your witnessing efforts, just rejoice, and give praise to the Lord! When the lost world sees the Christian giving praise despite the circumstances in his life, they will take notice. You can make a difference through praise.
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE THROUGH POWER.
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might” (Ephesians 6:10). We cannot live the Christian life successfully without the power of God on our lives. When a person is emptied of sin and self and filled with the power of God, he can make a difference in the lives of those with whom he comes in contact. I have seen people filled with the power of God and boldly witnessing to their peers about their need of a Saviour. I have seen large, thick necked college football players hear a sixteen year old boy and fall under great conviction and trust Christ because of how Christ came through that young boy was filled with the power of God. Young or old you can make a difference when you have the power of God on your life!
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE THROUGH PASSION
The reason so many are not being reached with the Gospel is that so few of our Christians really care. I have known of Christians who weep because they cannot get a man or woman to marry, or because their dog or cat is so sick, but those same people have never wept for their friends who are lost and on their way to a devil’s hell. Until you get to the place in your life where you care enough to love someone and shed some tears, you will never be as effective as you should in your soul winning and leading others to live for God. Have you ever cared about some soul deeply enough to weep and pray for that person? “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with the rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him” (Psalm 126:5-6). You can make a difference through the passion you have for lost souls.
You can make a difference. It can be through your faithful witness and testimony that might lead a person to the Lord.
