SETH – The Sherman Lady Tide set two goals for the 2008-09 season -- to have a winning record and win at least one game in the playoffs.
The Boone County team accomplished both.
“We met our goals this year, and even though we didn’t win two sectional games to move on to regionals, we did what we wanted as a team,” Sherman Coach Terri Dawn Williams said.
Of the Lady Tide's 10 losses, six were by 10 points or less.
“We have to learn how to win the close one next year,” Williams said.
The Lady Tide loses three seniors but only one starter from this year’s team.
Senior guard Brittany Merritt anchored the offense from the point guard position for the last four years.
“Brittany has been our point guard for four years,” Williams said. “She has done a lot of growing up in the four years she has played and we will miss her talent and determination.”
Senior forward Lyndsey Perry showed grit and determination throughout her career. Unfortunately, she was injured for the last two weeks of the season and had to sit out the team’s final games.
“She was there everyday, even if she was injured,” Williams said. “She was like our third coach on the bench. Her leadership and her play underneath the basket will be missed.”
Senior forward Randi Dillon provided the team with camaraderie and leadership.
“Randi was a great leader,” Williams said. “She kept the girls in the game and was a good team player.”
Sherman beat Herbert Hoover 38-33 in its sectional opener but lost to Sissonville 73-23 in the sectional championship game.

The Lady Tide led 12-8 after the first quarter, 20-14 at halftime and 26-25 after the third quarter.
A 12-8 fourth-quarter scoring advantage allowed Sherman to hold off Herbert Hoover.
“It was a good game,” Williams said. “We came out with a win by playing team defense and making the shots we needed to make late in the game. We would get up by 12 points at times in the game, but they cut our lead down every time. We hung on and came out with a win.”
Junior forward Madison Bowman led the Tide with 12 points. She also had 13 boards and three steals to pick up a double-double.
Junior guard Crystal Halstead added eight points and five boards.
“Crystal came out hot in the beginning,” Williams said. “She got us the lead early in the game.”
Junior guard Jessica Hudson provided seven points, three boards and one steal. Merritt recorded five points, two boards and one steal.
Junior guard Megan Williams contributed four points, seven boards and three steals. Sophomore guard Hallie Jarrell added two points and three boards.

The host Lady Indians led 21-3 after the first quarter, 33-8 at halftime and 53-18 after the third quarter in a wire-to-wire rout.
“Sissonville is a great team, and we did not play good,” Williams said. “If you play a good team and then don’t play your best ball, it gets ugly, and that’s what happened. They had a height advantage on us and shot almost 70 percent from the floor, but our girls still played hard and never gave up.”
Williams led the Tide with seven points. She also had five boards.
Bowman contributed six points and 10 boards. Halstead recorded five points and eight boards.
Hudson added four points and three boards. Jarrell provided one point and three boards.
Whitney Anderson scored 22 points for Sissonville, which also received 18 points from Jenna Curry and 14 points from Kaitlyn Snyder.
“It was a great season,” Williams stated. “Our successes show the teams’ hard work and dedication, and I could not have asked for more. Hopefully we can improve on this next year.”
