Wharton Elementary School Harvest Day


Wharton Elementary School Harvest Day is Nov. 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.


Everyone is welcome to attend. Apple Butter will be made by the Gordon Union Church Prices are: pints $5 or quarts $8. Proceeds go to the school.


Upper Big Branch Miners Memorial


‎The Boone County Public Service District (PSD) will hold its regular monthly Water and Wastewater meetings on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at the board office. If you wish to be on the agenda, please call the board office at 304-369-2622. The Water Board meeting will open at 6 p.m., prevailing time, followed by the Wastewater meeting at its board office in room 101 of the Danville Community Center, Hopkins Ave., Danville, W.Va., for the following purposes: 1) Water Agenda: Approval of Invoices and Line Extensions and 2) Wastewater Agenda: Approval of Invoices and District Operations.


REV UP MADISON EVENTS


Start your Christmas Shopping Early and support your community, REV UP Madison is again sponsoring their annual Christmas Auction at Madison Civic Center Nov 24th, doors open 5 p.m. auction hours 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., delicious concessions available.


November 24th is also Small Business Saturday, “it’s the biggest day of the year for SMALL BUSINESSES”, Shop Small and support your community, this event is sponsored by all WV On Trac Communities.

Madison Buddy League Basketball


Registration will be November 8th at the Madison Civic Center from 6 to 8 p.m. Children in grades Pre-K to 6th are eligible to play. (Cannot turn 13 prior to Sept. 1, 2012). There will be a registration fee. Coaches needed please sign up at registration.


Veteran’s Program


Whitesville Elementary School will hold the Annual Veteran’s Day Program on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served at 1 p.m. Please join us on this special day as students pay tribute and honor our heroes-the veterans. We hope to see you there.


Veteran’s Day Program


Please join Sherman Junior and Senior High Schools’ students for a tribute to America and her veterans in the Sherman High School Gymnasium at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012. Attendees will be invited to join the students for lunch immediately following the program.


The theme for this year’s program is “Honoring Service To Our Nation.” Each year, the students salute those men and women who have served their country as members of the armed services as well as those who today proudly wear the uniform of the active, reserve and National Guard forces.


Van Elementary School Fall Festival


Van Elementary School Fall Festival/ Kids Carnival/Bazar will be held on Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.


Rented table space is $10 and Tarp/Tent space is $20 (bring your own). Great for small business, crafters and yard salers. Make checks payable to VES PTO. You can mail the payment to VES PTO, P.O. Box 360, Van, WV 25206.


We will have door prizes, cake walk, Van Fire Dept., Gordon Union Church will be demonstrating how to make Apple Butter and it will be for sale and many more fun things for your family to enjoy! Reserve your table or space today.

Annual Pinto Bean Dinner


The Daniel Boone VFW #5578 Ladies Auxiliary Annual Pinto Bean Dinner is scheduled for Nov. 11, 2012, starting at noon. The menu includes fried potatoes, sauerkraut and wieners, pintos, cornbread and dessert. It will be at the Veterans’ Memorial Building and everything is free and open to the public.


BCARSE meeting


The Boone County Association of Retired School Employees (B.C.A.R.S.E.) will meet Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 10 a.m. at Park Avenue Restaurant in Danville.


Betty Grubbs will present the Devotional. All military veterans will be recognized. The newly elected WVARSE President John Riddle will be present and door prizes will be given.


Our elected Legislative representatives will present the program. A question and answer time will follow. Mrs. Jenny Light, president, encourages all members to attend this meeting.


Sherman Community Bazaar


November 10, 2012 at Sherman High Gymnasium and it is open to the Public from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sherman High School Student Council is raising money for our annual community Christmas dinner and also for our honor banquet.


We are looking for vendors for our community bazaar. The bazaar will be made up of businesses as well as people from the community. We are looking for people interested in setting up tables for an indoor yard sale.


We are also interested in setting up booths for businesses such as, Thirty-one, Sabika, Avon, Mary Kay, Photography, Pharmacy, Child Gyms, Arts and Craft vendors etc. Local businesses are also welcome to set up tables.


Tables start at $10 in advance and $15 at the door. If you are interested in a table, with electricity they are $30. Sherman High School is going to have a concession stand.

WVDEP conducting public meeting on water quality standards


The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s Water Quality Standards Program will conduct a public meeting from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 8, at WVDEP headquarters in Charleston. The meeting will take place in the Coopers Rock Conference Room.


Staff from the WVDEP will discuss comments received during the recent solicitation of public input on potential revisions to the state’s water quality standards, which will be under review as part of the 2014 Triennial Review process.

Danville/Madison Kiwanis Club


The Danville/Madison Kiwanis Club would like to open the membership doors for membership to the Kiwanis Club. The Kiwanis Club is over 100 years old and has members from all around the world. The members of the Kiwanis club take their club seriously making a difference in one child one community at a time. The Kiwanis Club does all that it can for its citizens and children that live within the community, Kiwanis Club works with other Civic Organizations. Everyone benefits from membership in the Kiwanis Club. Service Leadership programs, such as Circle K for College students, Key Club for High Schoolers, Builders Club for the middle school, and K-Kids for Elementary students, are some of the things. The members are made up of citizens within the community that want to make a difference in their community. If you would like to become a member of the Danville/Madison Kiwanis come on down on Wednesday evenings at the Coffee Connection on Main Street in Madison. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. and we would love to see you there.


Candle lighting


There will be a candle lighting at Pineview Cemetery at 4 p.m. on Dec. 1, 2012. Volunteers are welcomed. There will also be a Memory Tree for anyone wanting to bring a bulb for a past loved one is welcomed to do so. For more information, call 304-837-3804.


Veteran’s Memorial


Madison VFW Post 5578 is building a Veteran’s Memorial to honor mothers of veterans and veterans. Purchase a brick for $50. Post 5578 is constructing a Veteran Memorial to honor the mothers’ of Veterans and Veterans. New Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting

Crafters needed


Crafters are invited to participate in the Appalachian Center for Independent Living’s 12th annual Community Christmas Party to be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the National Guard Armory at Coonskin.
