Madison Little League

Bingo Night


The Madison-Danville Jaycees will host a “Bingo Night” at the Lick Creek Nutritional Center on Friday, January 18. Games are $2 each or 10 games for $15. Doors will open at 7 p.m. with Bingo starting at 7:30 p.m. Stop by and enjoy some delicious food, fun, and your chance to win one of our great prizes including cash! All ages welcome.

Rental Assistance Program


The Boone County Housing Authority will be changing the application process for Section 8 Rental assistance program. We will begin on Feb. 1, 2013, of maintaining a preference waiting list and a non-preference waiting list. We will have a separate waiting list with date and time for local residents of our jurisdiction of Boone and Lincoln counties. We will be accepting any comments you may have in writing at Boone County Housing Authority, 824 Lick Creek Road, Danville, WV 25053, by Jan. 18, 2013.


LIEAP (LOW INCOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM)


The Metro Aging and Disability Resource Center will be assisting the seniors and the disabled to apply for help with their heating bills through the LIEAP (LOW INCOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM) public intake period, starting Jan. 22 through Feb. 1, 2013. Foster parents needed


Necco believes in the “power of family” and in today’s society, family means more than ever. For more than 8 years, Necco of Logan has provided foster families and much needed therapy to hundreds of needy West Virginia children. We appreciate our foster parents for the hard work they do, and encourage others to join us in our mission to provide safe and loving environments for kids who need out of home care.


Accordingly, Necco seeks qualified foster parents to open their hearts and homes to children in need. Specifically, we are looking for loving foster families in Logan, Mingo, Boone and Wyoming counties who are willing to give that special child a chance.


Necco serves kids from birth to age 18 hailing from all 55 West Virginia counties, and employs clinically trained professionals with many years of experience working with kids. Necco foster parents can expect 24- hour support as well as training and recruitment incentives.

If you live in Boone, Lincoln, Logan, Mingo, Cabell, Wayne, Putnam, Mason counties and are working, going to school or in a WV WORKS program, Link Child Care Resource and Referral may be able to assist you with the cost of your child care. You must meet pre-determined income eligibility guidelines in order to receive financial assistance.

As a home child care provider you make your own flexible schedule and are your own boss. More importantly, you can make a positive difference in the lives of many young children. LINK Child Care Resource and Referral is a program of River Valley Child Development Services and is grant funded through the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources Bureau of Children and Families, Early Care and Education. We serve Boone, Cabell, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, Mingo, Putnam, and Wayne Counties by assisting low income families with the cost of child care so they may improve their lives through employment, school and the WV Works program. We also provide consumer education so families can make informed decisions regarding the care and education of their children. Additionally, our agency recruits child care providers, conducts regular training workshops for child care professionals, and provides technical assistance such as behavior consultations and the Traveling Resource and Information Library System (TRAILS).


Grief Recovery Support Groups


Grief recovery groups are designed for people who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The group setting provides a “safe place”, a place you can really be yourself, no matter how you are feeling. You will be understood, listened to, and unconditionally supported by others who have also experienced the loss of a loved one. Sometimes it just helps to know you are not alone in your grief journey and there are others who can relate to your experience.

Facilitated by professional trained bereavement counselors.


Cheerleading Competition


The Boone County Parks & Recreation Cheerleading Competition is set for Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at the Madison Civic Center. This event is sanctioned by the WVSSAC. If interested in entering your squad, please contact the Parks & Rec. office at 304-369-6125.


Appalachian Scrip & Token Association meeting

Master Gardener class


The Boone County Extension Master Gardeners are holding a 10-week Master Gardener certification class beginning Monday, Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. at the Racine Community Center. The cost is $75, which includes the WVU Extension Master Gardener Manual. The Madison Civic Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, for citizens to use to walk in this winter.
