Harlem Superstars coming to Madison


Harlem Superstars will be at the Madison Civic Center on Feb. 6, 2013, at 6 p.m. to showcase their talents and skills. They will be taking on the Boone County All-Stars whose team will be composed of teachers, police officers, firemen, and alumni from Sherman, Scott and Van. Come out and enjoy the show. Ticket prices are $7, if you buy in advance (At Sherman, Nick Cabell and at Scott, Amy Cabell) or at the door $8. Harlem Superstar memorabilia will be available.


Friends of Coal Ladies’ Auxiliary – Boone/Logan Chapter


The Boone/Logan Chapter of the Friends of Coal Ladies’ Auxiliary will hold its January Meeting on Thursday, January 31, 2013. We will meet at Park Avenue Restaurant in Danville from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Everyone is invited to attend. Membership is FREE. Boone County Soccer Club Final Registration


The final registration for the Spring 2013 soccer season will be Saturday, February 2 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Madison Fire Department. No registrations will be accepted after this date. LIEAP (LOW INCOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM)


The Metro Aging and Disability Resource Center will be assisting the seniors and the disabled to apply for help with their heating bills through the LIEAP (LOW INCOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM) public intake period, Jan. 23 through Feb. 1, 2013. LINK Child Care Resource and Referral is a program of River Valley Child Development Services and is grant funded through the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources Bureau of Children and Families, Early Care and Education. We serve Boone, Cabell, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, Mingo, Putnam, and Wayne counties by assisting low income families with the cost of child care so they may improve their lives through employment, school and the WV Works program. We also provide consumer education so families can make informed decisions regarding the care and education of their children. Additionally, our agency recruits child care providers, conducts regular training workshops for child care professionals, and provides technical assistance such as behavior consultations and the Traveling Resource and Information Library System (TRAILS).


Grief Recovery Support Groups


Grief recovery groups are designed for people who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The group setting provides a “safe place”, a place you can really be yourself, no matter how you are feeling. You will be understood, listened to, and unconditionally supported by others who have also experienced the loss of a loved one. Sometimes it just helps to know you are not alone in your grief journey and there are others who can relate to your experience.

Facilitated by professional trained bereavement counselors.


Cheerleading Competition


The Boone County Parks & Recreation Cheerleading Competition is set for Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at the Madison Civic Center. This event is sanctioned by the WVSSAC. If interested in entering your squad, please contact the Parks & Rec. office at 304-369-6125.


Master Gardener class


The Boone County Extension Master Gardeners are holding a 10-week Master Gardener certification class beginning Monday, Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. at the Racine Community Center. The cost is $75, which includes the WVU Extension Master Gardener Manual. The Madison Civic Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, for citizens to use to walk in this winter.
