Hazel Price was born in Logan County. Her mother was Martha Chafin before she met and married Robert Sanders. Together the two had eight children - one boy and seven girls of which Hazel was the youngest. Hazel grew up in what is now known as Sanders Bottom.
On Feb. 3, 2103, the long-time Madison resident turned 105 years young.
She left home when she met and married her Grady Price, who was a barber in Madison for many years. She worked in Madison as a seamstress at Ellis’ Department Store. Together the Price’s lived in West Madison where she raised her two children- one son Jerry Price of Madison and the late Wanda Price Banwell of Farmington Hills, Michigan.
Hazel has resided at Boone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center since 2006 on the advice of her doctor. To celebrate her birthday, her family and nursing home staff joined together to host a party in her honor, which was held in the dining room of the facility. Those in attendance were not only her family, facility staff, pastor and the friends made since being admitted to the nursing home, but also her friends that she has gotten to know through the Christian Motorcycle Association. Hazel enjoys participating in the Annual Thunder on the Hill motorcycle cruise in which is hosted by the facility each May. Hazel participated in her first motorcycle ride at the age of 100. She has ridden each May since and cannot wait until this May so she can ride again.
