MADISON — A packed house filled the Boone Memorial Hospital conference room on Valentine’s Day at the February Lunch and Learn ‘Healthy You’ session. Over 40 individuals including BMH employees and local community members were in attendance.
The session entitled, “Love your Heart” focused on tips to keep your heart healthy.
Presenter, Kathy Hill, MSN, FNP-BC said she wanted participants to leave with strategies and tips they can use to keep their heart healthy by the daily decisions they make. Participants were encouraged to dress in red in honor of National Heart Health Month and Valentine’s Day.
Kathy is a Family Nurse Practitioner and independent health consultant in Madison. She is National Board Certified and attended nursing school at Southern WV Community College and Marshall University (BSN & MSN, Nurse Practitioner). The session lasted an hour in length and lunch was provided free of charge. “Change the Future WV co-sponsored the Lunch & Learn in the amount of $250.00. We have a different co-sponsor each month,” explained Karlie Belle Price, the Public Relations & Marketing Director at BMH. “Each participant also received a few Valentine’s Day gifts and treats, on behalf of BMH,” added Price.
The community is very supportive and complimentary of the event.
“I personally love the Lunch and Learn sessions. I have attended two of the three held this year and enjoy them greatly. I realize it takes a lot of hard work and planning and feel the hospital does a wonderful job. I can’t wait to attend more,” said community member, Janie Fowler.
Boone Memorial Hospital is planning to hold a Lunch and Learn ‘Healthy You’ session each month until sponsorship subside. “We luckily have secured sponsorship for most of the upcoming luncheons, which help cover part of the cost. BMH covers the rest of the cost, said Price.
