On June 27, 2008, Whitesville Police Chief Roger Coffey was called to the JKLM Inn to investigate reports of a fight and domestic violence allegations. A criminal complaint filed at the time in Boone County Magistrate Court alleged at the time that Bradley Williams, of the Whitesville area, was fighting with his girlfriend. When Coffey arrived on scene, followed by Cpl. B.E. Guthrie, of the West Virginia State Police, the pair of officers attempted to arrest Williams. Then, the fight began. He was accused at the time with assaulting a woman, fighting with both officers, and kicking out the back window of a State Police Cruiser.
Last year, Williams was indicted on charges of assault on a police officer, battery on a police officer, two counts of obstruction of justice, two counts of destruction of property, battery, domestic battery, public intoxication and disarming of a police officer.
Last week, Williams was allowed to enter guilty pleas to misdemeanor counts of battery on a police officer, obstruction an officer and destruction of property. In exchange, the state has agreed to dismiss all the remaining criminal charges.
Sentencing will be held at a later date, but the plea agreement states that prosecutors agreed to a sentence of twenty-four hours in jail in regards to the destruction of property charge.
