During the meeting, several residents of the Stollings Road area were in attendance to ask for information on the status of water service to their area. PSD Chairman Fred Riggleman revealed that money was now available to proceed with the design phase of Phase II of the Lick Creek Water Project, which will encompass Stollings Road.
Riggleman added that stimulus money may be available by June 1, 2009 to be used for the projects. He said that if the money is not received by then the PSD will go back to their original plan. The original plan included the county purchasing the materials and allowing residents to install water lines on their own. A contractor who lives in the community has committed to help in the installation if necessary.
The PSD director also informed commissioners that a meeting was held with the Lincoln County Public Service District and the Regional Intergovernmental Council to discuss who would better be able to service the residents of an area encompassing parts of Boone and Lincoln Counties. Riggleman said they seemed to agree that the Boone PSD would be able to bring water to the residents faster and cheaper. This service would include at least 37 customers in Lincoln County.
In the Big Coal area of Boone County, commissioners are looking at completing the Prenter water project in a short amount of time. They signed a commitment letter which will allow PSD officials to do whatever is necessary to “be on the starting line whenever the starting gun is fired.”
The commissioners released $300,000 to the project that they originally committed to it, and also gave a grant to the PSD in the amount of $10,900 to finance preliminary research and to apply to a federal agency for funding for phase II of the project.
The Boone County Economic Development Office Director Larry Lodato, was authorized to go forward with a $50,000 LED grant for the Turtle Creek Water Project and to proceed with a $130,000 grant for Phase II of work on water line extensions in Lick Creek.
Commissioners authorized the Boone County Public Service District to pay Breckenridge Construction $20,949.28, Chapman Technical in the amount of $10,847.34 and $154,293 to World Wide Equipment to purchase a wastewater collection truck. In addition, the following payments were authorized.
They approved a grant to the Boone PSD in the amount of $8,719.43 to pay the salaries of flagmen at the Pond Fork Wastewater Project. Approval was also given to pay $46,675.53 from Appalachian Regional Commission grants. These funds will pay various companies involved in the Pond Fork construction.
The county also approved grants to the PSD in the amount of $4,500 to be paid to Potesta and Associates for design services related to phase II of the Lick Creek Water Project. They also approved payment of $11,306 to HD Waterworks for materials used on the Joe’s Creek Water Project.

"A contractor who lives in the community has committed to help in the installation if necessary."
I thought this was going to be bid out? Once again Boone County Commission NO BID CONTRACTS.
