Head-on collision on W.Va. 85 kills Holden man
The name of a man who died in an automobile accident Monday morning has been released.
Jermaine Brown, 21, of Holden, died as a result of a head-on collision that occurred at approximately 8:34 a.m. on Route 85 near Price Hill at Madison.
Officials with the Madison Police Department say they believe the accident occurred after 21-year-old Brown fell asleep at the wheel driving a car northbound on Route 85.
Brown’s vehicle had crossed the center line on Route 85, hitting a minivan head-on. The 21-year old Brown had been driving home from his job at a coal mine.
The female driver of the second car and Brown were entrapped in their vehicles, according to emergency responders.
The last update received by the Coal Valley News indicated that the unnamed woman, whose name is not being released, was last reported in stable condition.
Both drivers were flown, by HealthNet, to Charleston-area hospitals following the accident Monday morning.
The driver of a third car tried to avoid the crash, but ended up clipping the rear end of one of the cars, according to deputies. The driver of the third vehicle was not hurt.
Route 85 was closed to traffic in both directions for more than an hour, the emergency official said.
The Coal Valley News’ sister newspaper, the Logan Banner, reports that Brown was a former Logan High School football player.
Lt. John Adams of the Madison Police Department is the investigating officer.
