The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Boone County and many other southern West Virginia counties through tonight.
The counties include: WAYNE-LINCOLN-PUTNAM-KANAWHA-ROANE-CALHOUN-DODDRIDGE-MINGO-LOGAN-BOONE-CLAY-BRAXTON-GILMER-LEWIS-HARRISON-TAYLOR-MCDOWELL-WYOMING-RALEIGH-FAYETTE-NICHOLAS-WEBSTER-UPSHUR-BARBOUR-POCAHONTAS-and RANDOLPH.

THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES IN WEST VIRGINIA...BARBOUR...BOONE...BRAXTON...CALHOUN...CLAY...DODDRIDGE...FAYETTE...GILMER...HARRISON...KANAWHA...LEWIS...LINCOLN...LOGAN...MCDOWELL...MINGO...NICHOLAS...POCAHONTAS...PUTNAM...RALEIGH...RANDOLPH...ROANE...TAYLOR...UPSHUR...WAYNE...WEBSTER AND WYOMING.
* THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON.
* A VIGOROUS UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE AND ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT
WILL PRODUCE ADDITIONAL SHOWERS AND STORMS TODAY. THESE WILL BE CAPABLE OF DOWNPOURS THAT CAN PRODUCE A QUICK 1 TO 1.5 INCHES OF RAIN. THIS COULD POSE A FLASH FLOOD THREAT TO CREEKS...SMALL STREAMS...AND LOW LYING AREAS.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

Rest Of Today: Cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms. A chance of showers late this morning...then showers this afternoon. Locally heavy rainfall possible this afternoon. Near steady temperature in the lower 70s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 80 percent.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely with scattered thunderstorms in the evening...then a chance of showers with a slight chance of thunderstorms after midnight. Locally heavy rainfall possible in the evening. Lows in the lower 60s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60 percent.
Tuesday: Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning...then partly sunny in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 70s. West winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.
