Last week the family of Sherman High School graduate Rachel Harless posted this request to Facebook: Urgent Prayer Request for Rachel Harless, a young lady who just graduated from Sherman High School last month.
Rachel’s parents took her to Disney World this weekend to celebrate her high school graduation, but once they arrived in Orlando, Rachel became sick. She has been admitted to the hospital with multiple blood clots and has passed one clot through her heart (a miracle that she survived it). Her father, Tim Harless, sent the following text this morning and is asking for all prayers.
“…Here it is in a nutshell. Rachel has a large blood clot in each lung and one in her right thigh. It is causing her heart to enlarge and work harder. If the current meds that they are giving her doesn’t show a drastic improvement overnight we have to decide whether or not to have surgery to have catheters put in to drip a clot buster directly on the clots. The worst case senario is this. A 1% chance of bleeding of the brain with the catheters breaking it up within 12 hours or let the current meds do it overtime a.d possibly damage the heart. I feel with prayer God will intervene and we won’t have fo worry. Mickey can wait and we will be here as long as it takes.
Within the next day or two, her father gave an update.
UPDATE on Rachel Harless from her father, Tim:
“Rachel is doing better. We elected not to have the surgery. The Doctor informed us that he also felt that we will be ok to wait awhile unless something changes. Her vitals are good and have never really gotten high enough to be majorly concerned. Our decision not to have the surgery was based on two things. 1) The old …Ben Franklin approach of negatives vs. positives. 2) The most important, being a good listener and by that I mean listening to God. Never have I felt a comfort like I had when I spoke to God asking as a selfish parent would, “God please help my child” The peace was awesome.
Then we start getting emails, phonecalls, visits from Boone County, WV to California. We have cried for three days, one reason was due to the decision I was asked to make and the rest has been from the LOVE we have seen from friends, family, and total strangers.
It is amazing to be on the receiving end when people pour from their hearts such kind words. Thank all of you and we will keep you updated.”
