The world that we live in and the god of this world (Satan) tells you that it is hard to serve the Lord. Satan paints a picture of you having to give up a good time, friends, social standing, and being ridiculed by your peers. He tells you that it is too hard to live a godly lifestyle and therefore you should stick to the easy road. But Satan is a liar and the father of lies. Why should anyone believe him in the first place?

God has given an answer to this question in His Word, which is the Word of truth. You can take His Word to the bank. Let’s see what He has to say about this subject. First of all we will see what Solomon said about it in Proverbs 13:15. “Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.”

Jesus speaking about the blind leaders (the Pharisees) of His day said this: “All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers” The Pharisees were not concerned with obeying Christ. They just wanted the praise of men.

Contrast the spirit of the Pharisees with the spirit of Christ’s disciples in the early church who were totally committed to following Him. After a lengthily discussion of the whole church in Acts chapter 15 concerning a spiritual lifestyle they came to this conclusion. “For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;” (Acts 15:28).

Now consider Christ’s words in Matthew 11:28-30: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (29) Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. (30) For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Satan says it is hard to live for the Lord. God’s Word says (1) no grevious burdens, (2) only the necessary things (3) you will have an easy yoke (4) and a light burden, and (5) you will find rest for your soul.

Now which road do you really prefer to travel, the hard road or the easy road? It is easy to serve the Lord!
