After going head-to-head on the softball field last October, local law enforcement and attorneys are looking forward to their "Kings of the Court" basketball tournament as part of Boone County s observance of National Crime Victims Rights Week. The three-game tournament will be played at Van High School on April 21, Sherman High School on April 23, and Scott High School on April 30. The event is free and open to the public.

The battle is brewing and the contestants are practicing to earn the title “Kings of the Court.” The contestants are the local law enforcement officers and the local attorneys; the battle is a three-game basketball tournament that is part of Boone County’s observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.

While in the courtrooms of Boone County, law enforcement officers and attorneys battle daily for the rights of Boone County citizens, sometimes on the same playing field and sometimes at opposite ends of that field, but always with the sincere desire to “win” the battle for justice. While the title “Kings of the Court” is a light-hearted play on words for these two teams, the battle on the basketball court promises to be anything but light-hearted.

The battle will begin on April 21 at 7:00 pm at Van High School gymnasium and will continue on April 23 at Sherman High school’s gymnasium, also at 7:00 pm. The final scene of this “bragging rights” event will be at Scott High School’s gymnasium at 7:00 pm on April 30.

The public is urged to attend this free event to cheer on your favorite attorney or police officer and, at the same time, learn about victims’ rights and the services available to crime victims. The Boone County Victim Services Coordinator, Carol Martin, will be available with literature and will answer questions throughout the evening. Other government agencies and non-profit organizations that serve crime victims are also invited and urged to be present in order to help the public learn of their services.

More information is available from Carol Martin at 369-7374.
