A Turtle Creek man who volunteered to show his marijuana stash to a sheriff’s deputy has entered a guilty plea to drug charges.
On May 1, 2008, Deputy Justin Dalton was called to the home of Mark Fonzo McClanahan, 35, of April Lane, at Turtle Creek, to investigate reports of illegal drugs.
Dalton’s report stated that when he met McClanahan, the deputy immediately smelled what he suspected was marijuana.
After asking for permission to search, the deputy stated that he found thirty-two marijuana plants, and when asked, the man told him “he had been growing the plants for two weeks.”
McClanahan was later indicted by a Boone County Grand Jury on charges of manufacturing a controlled substance.
Recently, the man admitted to a single county of manufacturing a controlled substance. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to not seek a recidivist enhancement in the case.
When McClanahan is sentenced by Judge Will Thompson at a later date, he faces a sentence of up to one-year in jail and a fine of $1,000 to $3,000.
