Sherman 7, Man 3
Junior pitcher Jordan Massey picked up the first win of the season for the Tide, giving up three runs in six innings.
Senior Mark Cooper came in to pick up the save.
“Jordan pitched a heck of a game,” Sherman head coach Tony Tagliente said. “His curve ball was on and the defense played a good game behind him.”
The bats of Cooper and freshman Matt Long led the Tide to victory, as both crushed home runs. Senior Jeff Elian and junior Jake Halstead each went 3-for-4.
Tagliente credited Sherman's defense as the key to the win.
“We only committed one error,” he said. “Our outfield especially played a great game.
“This was a big win for us against a good team. We had some good timely hitting and they made a few errors that kept us in the lead.”

The score was tied at 1-1 entering the top of the seventh inning, when Halstead led off with a double. He scored the game-winning run on an error by the Warriors.
Ben Hapney added the other RBI in the final frame.
Long picked up the complete-game win for the Tide, giving up one run on four hits while striking out 11 batters.
“Matt’s fastball was on all night long,” Tagliente said. “It was a good emotional win for us.
“It was a good defensive game for both teams and Matt (Long) pitched a heck of a game. Jordan (Massey) and Ben (Hapney) made great plays at second and third all night long, and that kept us in the game.”
Massey and Halstead each had two hits. Hapney added a single and a pair of RBI.

Long doubled and junior Joey Morgan and Massey singled, but the Tide suffered a five-inning, mercy-rule loss to the Indians.
“We gave up six runs in the first inning,” Tagliente said. “We didn’t come ready to play.”
Cooper and Hapney combined to give up 10 runs on 13 hits and five errors.
