A Wharton resident, who fired into a Pond Fork area home, narrowly missing the woman inside, has admitted guilt. Megan Nicole Browning, 22, was arrested twice in 2006 for violent offenses. In late 2006 Browning was charged with firing a 40-caliber carbine into the home she thought was occupied by Cpl. Josh Weagel, of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office. Weagel wasn’t home, but his girlfriend, Sefra Hensley, was, and she narrowly escaped death. Later that summer, Browning was arrested again after she stabbed Geraldine and Derek Castle after they tried to rescue a friend who was being assaulted by Browning the Castles survived with numerous knife wounds and the assailant was charged with malicious wounding. By mid-2007, Browning was facing a laundry list of 17 indictments. The charges included wanton endangerment with a firearm, conspiracy and possession with intent to deliver marijuana. After over two years of psychological tests and court postponements, Browning was recently back in court to seek a plea agreement. In her agreement, the woman will plead guilty to the felony offenses of wanton endangerment and conspiracy, along with two counts of misdemeanor battery. The rest of the charges will be dismissed in return for her guilty plea. Browning also agreed to pay restitution and to give truthful testimony in any case if asked to. While no sentence is guaranteed, Megan Browning faces a worst-case scenario of a prison term of nearly 10 years when she returns this summer for sentencing.
