It was nice to “get away from it all” for a few days recently at Virginia Beach with my daughter Gina and two of my granddaughters, Kassie and Bethany.

A special thanks to Boone County maintenance employee Roger Price who worked very hard at the Historic Nellis Church/Archives getting things ready for the 27th annual Nellis-Armco Reunion. Also, thanks to Kerry Dickens whom, I have learned, can keep a secret! Thanks to the Boone County Commission for everything.

Folks gathered at the Nellis School gym this past Saturday for the 27th annual Nellis-Armco Reunion, which was combined with the Nellis Grade School reunion. Folks also enjoyed visiting the Nellis Church/Archives. These events are enjoyed each year by former neighbors and long-time friends from long ago.

The 13th annual Brush Creek School reunion will be here before we know it. August 15 is the date set for the reunion at the B.B. Johnston shelter at Racine Park. Come spend the afternoon with schoolmates and teachers from “way back when”.

Donnie Barker extends congratulations to Erica Williams and Justin Pauley of Ashford on the birth of a baby boy. Elijah David Pauley arrived June 19.

Heather Perdue completed her kindergarten class at Ashford-Rumble Elementary School and received certificates on Awards Day which included Accelerated Reader, Character, Citizenship, Spelling and Student of the Month for November, 2008. Heather celebrated her sixth birthday June 25 with family, friends and classmates at Grand Prix at Southridge. Thanks to everyone who made Heather’s day so special.

Dana Bowles is scheduled for surgery July 2. Dana is the son of Ernest Bowles of Chicago, Ill. and the late Arbutus Bowles. Please pray that Dana’s surgery goes well.
