It was nice to spend time at the West Virginia State Fair the past week. My grandchildren always enjoy it.
I recently had a nice phone conversation with Thurman Edward Kinder who now resides in Florida, but grew up in Ridgeview. Mr Kinder told me he was one of the first 8th grade graduates of Brush Creek Grade School in 1928. Mr Kinder is now 95 years of age. He remembers very well his teacher, Jessie McGlothlin, who later married Clyde Kincaid and had twin sons, Ronald and Donald. Mr Kinder had two brothers, Boyd and Joe, and sister Opal, who are all deceased. It was a joy talking with Mr Kinder about his school days at Brush Creek.
A special thanks to Shirley Hager of Drawdy for supplying all the ice for the 13th annual Brush Creek School Reunion. It was a warm humid day and the ice kept our soft drinks and water cold. We appreciate Shirley’s kindness.
If anyone knows the whereabouts of Annabelle Smith who once lived behind Don Estep’s store in Ridgeview during the 1950s, please let me know. Her former classmates wish to contact her.
Sympathy is extended to the family of Dorothy Payne of Emmons who passed away Aug. 15 at the age of 97.
Deepest sympathy to the family of Dennis Conley who passed away Aug. 13 at the age of 68. He was the father of JoAnna Hutchison of Elkview.
Mark Alan Thompson, Nashville recording artist and Boone County native, will be performing at the UMWA Labor Day Celebration at Racine Park on Sept. 7. There will be two shows, 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Admission is free. Others performing are Gordon Harmony Boys, Sumner Fort Bluegrass Boys, and Elaine Purkey.
