The non-profit grassroots group Rev-Up Madison, has announced a line-up of events for the public to help revitalize and energize downtown Madison.

According to member Carolyn Mullins, the group is hosting an Auburn Game Watch Party and Tailgate event Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Madison Civic Center.

“We are going to have a silent auction. If you have any gently used or new items you would like to donate, all would be greatly appreciated. These do not have to be WVU items,” Mullins states in a press release.

Donations already submitted to the group have included items such as Christmas flower arrangements, baked goods, blue and gold Longaberger baskets and coupons for haircuts.

“We are very pleased that the Boone County Chapter of the WVU Alumni is helping with this event. John Abbott and friends have donated their time to cook the hamburgers, hot dogs and brats,” Mullins wrote in a press release.

The group’s next anticipated project will be the construction of a community park, to be located on the left side of the lower Main Street. The group envisions flowers, benches and a nice use of green space to attract more visitors to the downtown area.

In addition to the tailgate party, the next Rev-Up Meeting is scheduled at the City of Madison Council Chambers on Monday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.

Then, on Oct. 29, Rev-Up Madison and local Main Street businesses and residents will be participating in a “HalloweenTrick or Treat and Costume Judging” on Main St.

Also planned, on Nov. 28, an auction at the Madison Civic Center. Items for the auction can be dropped off at Ferrell & Hill Insurance Agency office on Main Street, or by calling Mullins at 304-369-0426 to have the items picked up.

All proceeds from the auctions will go toward Rev-Up’s continued efforts to revitalize Main Street and State Street.

Dec. 5 will see the second annual Down Home Christmas on Main St. Again this year, Rev-Up plans on hosting a “Breakfast with Santa” complete with sleigh rides and much more family fun for the holidays.
